The Blood Angels will always have a special place in my heart - the first Warhammer model I ever painted was a Blood Angel, way back in good old 1995. Their shoulder pad trim was black in those days. Happier times.
While putting together this character name generator, I found a wealth of material in the official lore of the chapter to draw upon. So many named characters have had their first names chopped up and repurposed here, although I did run into something of a challenge with the surnames. Quite simply, very few Blood Angels characters have been given surnames in the lore (an issue I didn’t encounter when making a name generator for the Ultramarines) so I had to extrapolate and come up with a lot of original material.
It seems to me that Blood Angels naming conventions draw primarily on Medieval Latin and the Romance languages (e.g. Lemartes), with a slight nod towards the theology of ancient Middle-Eastern cultures (e.g. Baal). Tycho also shares his name with a somewhat famous astronomer, so I threw bits of some astronomers’ names in there too for good measure. Hey, we’re talking about fictional super-soldiers living 40,000 years from now - you don’t know what their names look like.
This name generator is perfect for narrative play in the 41st millennium, whether you're naming your heroes in Warhammer 40,000 or each and every squad member in Kill Team. It’s also great for naming your Blood Angels space marines in the 30K setting of the Horus Heresy. I hope you like it!
