The plucky and/or downtrodden soldiers of the Astra Militarum (or the Imperial Guard to us old folk) hail from a million different worlds across the Imperium, and each regiment can be as varied as the environments in which they’re raised. Cadians seem to represent something of a ‘default’ setting and are roughly comparable to modern military forces here in the 3rd millennium, but the Imperial Guard also includes the high-tech Elysian Drop Troops and the axe-wielding Kanak Skull Takers. Just imagine any type of military force from any point in Earth’s history (or indeed from any work of science-fiction), and you’ll find it represented in some fashion within the Astra Militarum.
This incredible variety allows for a lot of creative flexibility when creating or kitbashing an Imperial Guard army, and the same very much applies to the creation of this army name generator. I wanted to make something that would not only help Guard players give a suitably thematic name to their forces, but that would also inspire hobbyists to dream up exciting new regiments and kitbashing opportunities.
